In addition to my experience working with the client issues described above, I have special training working with persons who have suffered a concussion, commonly referred to as a traumatic brain injury (TBI). What can you expect from therapy?
As you might imagine, therapy is a very individualized and unique experience that has the potential to be a healing process and an empowering opportunity leading to personal growth. I believe an important aspect of therapy is for clients to feel comfortable working with their therapist. So, I encourage potential clients to consider what characteristics they think they might like in a therapist. I hope the information provided on this site will give you an initial sense of how I work with my clients. I am happy to speak with you to answer any additional questions you may have about my style of therapy.
My approach to working with clients is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental and empathic setting where they feel understood and comfortable discussing their issues. My philosophy is that this type of environment facilitates a client’s ability to make healthy changes. In working with clients, I try to use my expertise to help clients explore their issues, identify personal strengths, and offer opportunities to develop skills to cope and feel better. Generally speaking, I integrate a number of different treatment modalities in therapy. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is one type of treatment that focuses on becoming aware of how thoughts are often associated with suffering, and how changing our thoughts can allow us to feel happier.
